September was one of the warmest months on record.  We had many many days in the middle to high twenties, and several in the low thirties.  This would have been wonderful if we hadn’t had to be in school.

Given the circumstances, Grade Six are some of the luckiest students at HCS;  their classroom has the only functioning air conditioner!  How cool is that!

In September, we had Blue and White Day which was the first home football game of the season.  There was a barbecue at lunchtime, a pep rally introducing all the teams, and the football game at 2:00.

Today we have “SuperHero Day!”  Many students and some teachers have dressed as superheros.  In the afternoon,  there is a movie for grades 5-12, Monsters and Aliens, because we sold enough magazines for the SLC fundraising drive.

October 1 starts tomorrow.  The weather has grown colder and the nights are growing longer.  Hopefully (at least for some of us) the snow won’t cover the ground for several more weeks!

Hello (for not much longer) Grade Six! In another week and a half you will no longer be elementary school students.

For this blog post, first I would like you to go back in time and recount some of the highlights of elementary school for you. What was particularly cool and when did this happen. Tell about 2 or 3 (or more) events that were particularly memorable.

Also, I’d like you to write what going on to high school in the fall means to you.

Your post should be at least 10 – 15 sentences.

I dont have a bully but have seen some other people get bullied like getting called losers. And other people make fun of other forts and calling it sucks and other names. But it is not fun getting called things that you are not.

Bullying at school, students abusing other students, is a topic on the minds of many people:  teachers, students, and general citizens.  Recently, you read a newsstory regarding a school shooting in Germany on BCCB NewsRound.

Without mentioning names or specifics, describe in detail an incidence  of bullying you’ve witnessed at school.  Explain the situation.

  • Describe the personality of  the bully as best you can.  Is he or she known to bully others often?
  • In your opinion, what was the motivation or reason for the bully to torment his/her victim.
  • Did anyone help the victim?  Were there any bystanders – people who watched what was going on – who did nothing to help the victim?  Why do you think people chose to do something or chose to do nothing about the bullying incident?
  • What did you do about this incident, and why did you choose to act this way.

Your blog post should be at least 8-10 sentences.  You need to write in complete sentences.  Spelling counts.  Remember, people from all over the world can and do read what you write.

Blog due Friday, April 3, 2009.

Hello Kiwi students!   Your questions have prompted me, Ms. Cone, to get my grade six students to experiment with technology and post answers to some of your questions.  We are also trying to explain to you where Canada is, and where Hafford, Saskatchewan is in Canada.  Here
is a video I made as Mrs. R. and I were driving south down hignway 340 from Hafford as we drive to Saskatoon.

Grade six Hafford students:  Your posts need to be done by March 2.

Mr. Theobald teaches technology classes in Waterloo, Illinois, USA.  We correspond with his classes each quarter.  Mr.  Theobald Skyped us from Bangledesh where he is on a teacher exchange.  He sent us pictures of Bangledeshi students dancing in their school while he and another teacher were visiting.

Lucky students!  You get a whole week’s break next week.  We teachers have to go to “school” on Thurdsay and Friday for convention.

This week, I want you to write a blog entry about what you will be doing next week.

Since most of you are farm kids, I want to know what kinds of chores you will be doing.  (Even if you AREN”T farm kids, what are some chores you still have to do).    I did not grow up on a farm or in a small town.  Please give lots of details as to the work you must do.

Next, what will you be doing for fun during your vacation.  Will you be going on a trip away from home? What will you be doing?   Where?  For how long will you be away?  (Who will do your chores while you are away?)

I expect your post to be at least 2 paragraphs of 3 – 5 sentences each.  Due February 13.
